JANUARY
2014 RELEASES
Carol
Woods is pleased to announce that her latest recordings
are now available on itunes, amazon and cdbaby.
The
songs feature the music of Richard A. Whiting, famed
composer of many standards of the Great American Songbook
including "Hooray for Hollywood," "Too
Marvelous for Words," "She's Funny That Way,"
and many others.
These
newly recorded songs will be featured in her upcoming
show, "One Hour With You: The Music of Richard
Whiting."
As
a dear friend of the Whiting family, this project holds
significant meaning for Carol, and is made even more
special by the collaboration with Margaret Whiting's
longtime musical director Tex Arnold.
In
the course of their preparation for the show, they discovered
"Sittin' On The Curbstone Blues" which was
a song Richard wrote with Haven Gillespie and Seymour
Simons, but was never recorded. It's perfectly suited
for Carol's dramatic, fun, yet bluesy interpretation.
The
second song, was actually an unfinished song with lyrics
by Gus Kahn and music by Richard Whiting. Hubert "Tex"
Arnold took on the arduous task of completing the song
and arranging it for Carol. Two versions of the song
have been released, one which includes the original
introductory verse, and one without. Upon hearing this
song, the listener is sure to think it's already a standard.
Upon
listening to this hidden gem Michael Feinstein commented,
"There is nothing more special than finding a new
song that's classic and fresh at the same time, and
'A Day Away From Town,' is just that. The combined pedigree's
of Gus Kahn and Richard Whiting, with an assist from
Tex Arnold have made this a long overdue winner that
in my book is an instant standard."
